The Morning After: IU 97, Bryant 54

The top-ranked Hoosiers had little trouble in their season opener against overmatched Bryant. Deadlines and space issues meant I wrote short and quick for the Tribune-Star and the Post-Tribune, so here’s some more about Game 1 of IU’s season:

Even with a shorthanded frontcourt because of injury and suspensions, the Hoosiers’ big men played well. Cody Zeller and Christian Watford each finished with double-doubles — technically. Watford had a triple-double because he was credited with 10 deflections by the IU statisticians — and Jeremy Hollowell, despite some rookie mistakes, played well overall, even playing a little point forward at times.

Yogi Ferrell may not put up the numbers that Zeller did as a freshman last season, but he’ll definitely make some highlight plays. And his seven assists show he’s going to be able to put the other Hoosiers in scoring position.

IU is back in action on Monday night against North Dakota State.
