WHAT DOES TAKES + TALES MEAN?

This site was, and technically still is, simply AndyProffet.com since its creation. It made sense to slap my own name on it, right?

Anyone who’s followed this site for any length of time will know I’ve been trying to figure out what I want it to be since the beginning. When I was a freelance writer covering Indiana University sports for two separate newspapers, it made sense for this to be a place where I linked to those stories and occasionally went beyond the coverage I was getting paid for to weigh in on my thoughts on how the Hoosiers were faring.

In early 2025, I decided the website needed a name change–a tweak, really. I opted for Takes + Tales, because the intent, as I write this in March 2025, is that the focus of the content on this site be on Takes (which I’m defining here as “what I think should or should have happened”) and Tales (which I’m defining as “here’s what happened.”)

In both cases, but primarily with Tales, I’m granting myself some creative leeway in how the stories get told. For instance, I might use a real-life experience as the basis for a fictional Tale.

I’m also going to do my best to not get political with my Takes because I want this place to be as stress-free as possible. Primarily for myself but also for those who stumble across it (or who I make subscribe and follow).
