I come by my taste in music honestly (thanks, Dad)

I’m winning at SEO by referencing a song from 1973.

One of the many fond memories I have of my dad is his jamming to some rock song – Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride,” or Eric Clapton’s “Forever Man,” or, notably, pretty much anything by Pink Floyd. The list goes on and on.

One of those songs popped up one day on one of those random playlists Spotify put together based (allegedly) on other music I had been listening to. That song? “Cover of the Rolling Stone” by Dr. Hook. Here it is, for those of you who have somehow never experienced the magic:

There’s no good reason for that song to have affected me the way it did, but there I sat in my office at home, eyes watery from the melancholy memories that silly little song brought up. I miss him dancing in his chair, waving his hands to the rhythm of this song and all the others he loved.

One more thing I need to share. I decided to delve a bit more into “Cover of the Rolling Stone.” According to Wikipedia, which we know is never wrong, Dr. Hook DID make it onto the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, in the March 29, 1973 edition as a matter of fact.

Two days after I was born. Forty-seven years to the day that Dad died.

Thanks, Dad. I see what you did there.
